A little 4th of July Fin

This 4th of July was like none we have really done before. It was the first year with a toddler, the 1st year in man (like 10) that we haven't been with my family for a BBQ and fireworks at the Lake and the 1st where we have celebrated for 3 days straight with parties.
I wouldn't exactly recommend keeping your toddler out until 11 for 3 nights in a row. They tend to get a little grumpy at times. And they can really drive a very pregnant woman crazy!!!On the 3rd we went to Hoyt to celebrate Independence Day with church family. It was really awesome to be included in such an event. We absolutely love CPCC and all the fabulous friends we have made. And Tyler had friends too. As you can see in one of the pictures him and his friend Peyton were playing in the dirt together. Tyler got a little more involved and thanks to Aunt T and her wise counsel with Tyler's play, Tyler was covered from head to toe in dirt. Really he had been playing in the dirt for a long time and Aunt T was a little jealous and wanted in on the fun. We always blame her for Tyler's messiness or when anything happens and we can't find his shoes or he is muddy we just blame Tricia. I"m sure she really appreciates it.
Tyler spent much of the evening running around outside and playing for at least an hour in the dirt. I have a video of him that I can't get loaded right now of him putting dirt in his hair for several minutes.
When we got home we really did wake him up despite the time and he and daddy took a shower. The tub was covered in dirt as you can imagine from these dirty boys. When Tyler got out of the shower after his hair being scrubbed 2 times, he still had gravel and dirt chunks in his hair. I think I spent 10 minutes brushing and picking out his hair!! Oh what a BOY! The next night was the 4th and we spent the evening again with church family. Tyler had several little friends and even some big friends that he had a blast playing with. At times he was a little close to the fireworks than I would have liked but his daddy seemed to think he was a big boy and could handle it. Jeff still doesn't understand how I can love the 4th so much and HATE being close to the fireworks. I want to be way far back and have nothing to do with lighting them or even seeing them before they are lit. I guess i"m more for the atmosphere or something.
Tyler is usually surrounded by girls with church friends. He was having fun being pulled by Linda in the wagon with his friends Addy and Peyton.

He also has gotten to the point where he has an opinion about who he talks to and allows to be close to him. My friend Angela had gotten him some homemade ice cream and he would not take it from her at first. He refused. He'll turn his head and refuse to look at the person or even in that direction. He can be quite the little ornery dude sometimes. But after he figured out what she had and that mommy was eating broccoli and carrots instead of the carby ice cream he decided Angela was okay.

Aren't my boys cute!?

Paul brought over some snappers for Tyler on the 4th. I wasn't really sure what he would think but he really loved them. Even a few days later as the trash still lay on the sidewalk Tyler would try to stomp them.
We were very excited to see Paul on the 4th. And Amanda I know you hate that you miss things like this so that is why we try to video more so you can actually see the funny things your little guy does. Thanks Paul for Tyler's 1st real experience with the ever famous snapper crackers!
Another blog wiill come later for you to see our next day's celebrations. The Martens love the 4th!

the 4th of July was really fun!
though I thought it was EXTREMELY funny when 'someone'
(...some weird high-school boys)
tipped over the fireworks @ my house.
