I've Got Something to Say

Not that I haven't had something to say for the last 4 months but we have been a little extra chaotic around the Martens' house and it really doesn't seem to be slowing down any. We had a flood in our basement a while back due to bad guttering but it is now fixed so I had computer issues and all kinds of other issues. But we are back in business it seems. Our basement is refinished, painted, remodeled and cleaner that ever, we have a new computer and I'm actually learning how to load pictures on this thing!!! I'm so fancy! So lets catch up briefly on the last few monthsMay:
* Tyler finished his 1st year of preschool at Logan. He had a fabulous time and was not at all looking forward to not going to school for such a long time.* Jeff and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary and spent the4 weekend together while the kids stayed home. I'm thinking that they may think anniversary means Christmas with as many "gifts" as we came home with for them. Oops! How we ended up in the kids stores we don't know but we did and we bout them several things.

* 4th/5th grade camp: We took 23+ kids to our camp we do every year at Living water ranch. We stayed for 3 days and had a blast. This year we took mostly kids who don't have parents who attend church and it was really incredible. These kids got excited about the Word of God, excited about having their own Bible and yearning for more of Jesus. What better trip could we ask for. It was fun and encouraging at the same time. We adore these kids.
* My sister got engaged (FINALLY) and we celebrated and I started getting giddy again over wedding plans. Its so exciting and so sad at the same time. We are happy for her obviously but sad for ourselves because she will be moving to Florida soon.
June
*Appleseeds: It was the kickoff for the summer session of Appleseeds which is a group of girls who meet at my house from 2-4 every Monday in the summer. This summer we studied from a book about biblical friendship for teenage girls. We had anywhere from 15-24 girls at my house every week. it was a little claustrophobic but we all loved it and had a blast hanging out and doing the bible study and craft.* Zoo trips etc: we had lots of trips to the zoo and the park. Tyler and Haleigh love the zoo so much I think they would go everyday if the could. We spent many days there, at the duck pond and at the park. They had a blast.
* Eye doctor: Yeah I shouldn't say more. In my world the words "eye doctor" together are curse words! Okay maybe not that bad. But I really dislike going to the eye doctor because I always get bad news. decided to go to a low vision specialist because I needed a new "blind people" toy to help me read. That really turned into quite a night mare. My eyes are worse, I can't drive, I have more blind spots and then I had several more appointments and would be seen at KU Medical Center and have some more testing some. Thank you for ruining my life Doctor Low Vision Specialist. Okay so I may be being a little dramatic. I am upset but there isn't anything I can do about it so I guess I can just be depressed about it and be a cry baby or suck it up and make the most out of life. So after several weeks of depression I decided to suck it up and change my attitude...so I guess life is okay and it could be worse! :)

July* Took a family trip to see Gian in San Antonio and had a great time. Amanda rode down with us and we surprised G because she didn't know Amanda was coming. The kids really did a great job for a 12 hour car ride. I think the hotel stays and trips to McDonald's play places made up for the time in the car. And can I just say "praise God for portable DVD players!"We spent the first 7 days of the month either on the road or in San Antonio hanging out. We went to Sea World, Childrens' Museum, River Walk and had all kinds of fun. It was a fabulous first real family vacation. Now they want to go back to Aunt G's to go to Wiggle World at Six Flags because we missed that adventure.
Built a fort in Aunt G's living room to eat breakfast. They did crazy things when Jeff and I went for our jog and they thought they were hot stuff when we came back.
Alamo at River walk. We took a tour inside the place. It would have been a lot more interesting if I knew all the history and could read the signs. People were really amazed but I was clueless because I couldn't read anything that was going on.
I always wondered what it was like to m ilk a cow. We found out here!

Jeff had to get his picture taken with his all time favorite NBA player. I always thought Jeff was tall, but next to David Robinson he looks like a shrimp!

*Sunflower State Games: Actually this is my most looked forward to weekend out of the entire summer. I know I am crazy I love basketball! Or wait I think it may be what surrounds this basketball tournament...quality time with my dear friend Lindsay! We both look forward to watching the guys but more than that we can count on hanging out for the entire weekend and we LOVE it! But regarding the basketball they did fine and had lots of fun. Andy and Jeff however, are realizing more and more each year that they are getting older and can't play like they did in college. Tyler and Haleigh got to go to the games and were very excited to watch daddy and his friends play each other. The best game though was the game against Michael''s team. Brother's team was guys that he and Jeff play with every week and they won with a last second shot. Darn it.
*Jeff's HS Reunion: Ummm...same as any high school reunion I guess. Nothing special except we saw a few friends we used to hang out with a lot back in the day. Always a fun time but not necessarily something you want to do more than every 10 years! Life now is good and we have changed tremendously since high school. So that was ta ht.* VBS Planning: We spent many long hours at the church planning and preparing for Vacation Bible School. Tyler and Haleigh loved it and they still wonder why we don't go to church all the time. Almost every day they ask if we can go to church with Daddy. It is a blessing that they love the place, it really is their second home!

August
* 2nd-6th was VBS This year it was High Seas and we were on an expedition exploring God's Word. Jeff was Captain Jack and did a fabulous job. Every year it amazes me that he is up in front of people acting crazy and silly and doing a FINE job at it too. Five years ago I would have said that would never happen. I obviously was WAY off. But VBS was amazing and I love how Jesus is shown throughout the week. Kids get it! So many ways that God works during the week. There were kids who had never been before who heard the story of God's love and kids who came with bad attitudes and by the end of the week was sad it was over and wanted to know how to get a Bible to read more! Incredible! God is so good!*Jeff's first "sermon:" Jeff was in charge of the service after VBS and he gave the message. He was incredibly nervous but did a SUPER INCREDIBLE job. I seriously could not believe he was up there sharing the things that he was sharing. He is a superstar and I never knew I married a preacher boy!* Put our house on the market the 1st and had a contract on the 17th!!! Wow! It was incredible and I mean INCREDIBLE! Jeff and I found a house that we fell in love with. He had seen it at the beginning of the summer but wasn't sure if I would like the kitchen. Nothing more was really said about it. However, we have a problem with looking at houses and such and I had found this great house online. I looked at it everyday and prayed about it for about a week or two and told him about it. It wouldn't hurt anything to look at it right? Well, that's what we thought and then we fell in love. I mean LOVE! We went back 2 days later and signed a contract and put our house on the market. 17 days later there was a contract on our and here we are. We are moving on my 30th birthday weekend. Could a girl ask for anything more?! (OK... so a PARTY...I could ask for something more)
* Haleigh turned 2. We had a lady bug party for our little Haleigh Bug on the 16th. Extremely hard to believe that she is already two. Time flies way too fast. It was just the other day that she was such a sweet (sometimes sweet but more so fussy) baby. But still I miss that and it went by too fast. Now she is a little diva who thinks she is the only princess in the entire world and her favorite words are "mine & me" What happened?* Tyler's 1st day of school. Speaking of what happened..my little man is growing up way too fast too. He had is 1st day of this school year the day after Haleigh's birthday and he rode the bus. It was no big deal to him. The bus came down the road stopped in front of the house and Tyler let go of my hand at the stops and walked on like a pro. I had to get his attention to turn around so I could take a picture. Geez, he could have at least acted a little sad to leave me!
I'm glad he was fine though he is a champ. he loves the bust and gets a sticker every day for doing such a fine job on the bus. He loves school and loves that he rides the bus. He is a real big shot these days.
*More eye doctors. Trips to KU Med for more bad news. Not only can I not drive and my eyes got worse but I have been diagnosed with another disease . Lucky me right? Cone/Rod Dystrophy along with Starghardts/Macular Degeneration..what a lucky girl I am! But at least it explains why my vision is so poor. It was a very interesting visit with the doctor I'm pretty sure I threw them off a little.l Actually I am VERY sure they did not know what to think of me. But it was a helpful visit. Basically there is no new information out there to cure either disease, I'm still blind, I still hopefully will not lose ALL sight and there still is nothing we can do to prevent it from deteriorating more. Just chalk it up for 1 more eye doctor I have seen in my lifetime. Go team!
But really, it is bad (doctors words) it is very bad and it is not what we expected. CRD does not always go with starghardts but the peripheral decline in my eyesight is a classic case of the CRD.
I can just thank God though for providing me with such great friends to drive me around and for friends and family who are so supportive. I haven't really slowed down much since i quit driving. I still do massage, still go to massage school every other week, still involved in woman's ministry, Appleseeds, children's' ministry and whatever else comes my way. So live could be worse I could have no source of income, no loving family/friends, and be totally blind. So life really is good despite WHAT Satan throws my way to get me down.

That's all I have to say now.l I have a computer and know how to work it now but we are moving very soon so there may be another delay but I can promise that it will not be another 4 months. We have too many big events coming up with moving, birthday parties, and wedding showers so those pics will be up after they happen.

Ta Ta for now
