2-year olds......

Wow...2-year-olds...

So Tyler turned 2 this past weekend but before that he had already hit the terrible two's I'm afraid. (A birthday blog will come later) I have countless stories of his fits, his ornery antics and his silliness. This kid will definitely keep me on my toes. On a daily basis he reminds me of the struggle my mom must have had with my brother and the struggle my grandmother must have had with my dad. And it goes on and on from generation to generation because I am convinced that orneriness runs in the Malloy family.

Anyway let me just share with you one of my favorite stories that Tyler has done this past week. So, ever since Haleigh came home he has been sleeping in his 'big boy bed' he thinks he is pretty cool too. So, we have the challenge of nap times and bed time and it has taken it to a whole new level. So last week at nap time is when the parenting skills were needing some serious advice. I had given him countless warnings of getting back in his bed after we had read our nap time Love Bug story. It really had been about 151 minutes of this madness so I went in there with my mean mom voice and said "Tyler its time to stop being silly and close your eyes and take a nap" He looked at me and smiled. (Yeah it gets better) So I say Tyler do you need Daddy to come in here and give you a spank?" Evidently he thought that was a good idea. He lifted his little butt up spanked it and hollered, at the top of his lungs "DaDa"
What are you supposed to do then? So I wanted to laugh so bad. Jeff came in and Tyler spanked himself again. Now I can't even remember if Jeff actually spanked him again or what happened because I was so distracted with Tyler's antics.

There have been several more spanking stories. Like today for example, he would not leave Haleigh's swing alone and I had told him several times to cut it out. So finally I said Tyler do you need a spank. So I grabbed his arm..and he spanked himself before I could do it. But he continued with his disobedience so I spanked him and pt him in timeout. He really didn't like that one.
He loves to give himself spanks and ask if he can be in timeout. I'm really not so sure about this parenting thing because it seems to me that several of my tactics are not working. I know I know he is 2 and he is just acting like a 2-year-old but I really didn't know that it could be this hard. Can't they just listen to you and do what you ask?
